Outfit7-Backed Reading App KOBI Goes Global

October 27, 2024

Outfit7 celebrates US release of KOBI, a revolutionary reading app created by partner Hopalai.

Outfit7 is proud to announce the US release of KOBI, an innovative reading app created by its partner, Hopalai. The launch coincides with Dyslexia Awareness Month and the 75th Annual conference of International Dyslexia Association, and marks an important milestone in KOBI’s mission to support children with reading difficulties.

The app offers personalized, evidence-based learning strategies, including embedded phonics instruction, real-time feedback, and on-device speech recognition, all through an engaging and interactive interface.

KOBI’s release in the US comes after a year of successful collaboration between Outfit7 and Hopalai. Last year, Outfit7 officially partnered with Hopalai and became a significant investor, enabling KOBI to grow sustainably and to expand its impact on education. The app leverages advanced AI technology to support children with reading difficulties, making learning more accessible and engaging.

The US launch follows a series of significant achievements for KOBI on the global stage, including, on October 9 this year, being selected for the Gallery of Innovation at EdTechWeek in New York. In addition, the app was awarded the OpenAI Learning Impact Prize, as well as a Tools Competition Award for Accelerating Learning.

KOBI is currently engaged in a research project involving 550 children, with early results showing promising progress. The study examines how providing families with specific tools can improve reading fluency and comprehension by encouraging consistent practice at home, complementing the structured literacy methods taught by educators. This approach is especially helpful for students with dyslexia, with professionals unanimously agreeing that parental involvement is key to effective dyslexia intervention.

“We are thrilled to see KOBI debut in the US, particularly during Dyslexia Awareness Month,” said Jernej Česen, Senior VP of Distribution and Business Intelligence at Outfit7.  “This launch marks a significant milestone on our ongoing partnership with Hopalai, a company whose passion for educational innovation perfectly aligns with our values. Our commitment goes beyond investing in technology. We invest in teams like Hopalai, who bring boundless passion and a ‘no limits’ mindset to their work, using innovative solutions to drive meaningful change in the lives of people worldwide.”

Ursula Lavrenčič, CEO of Hopalai, expressed her excitement for this next phase. "Bringing KOBI to the US is a dream come true, and we are thrilled to launch at DyslexiaCon - an event that brings together the beating heart of the international dyslexia community. Our mission has always been to support struggling readers, and this launch opens up new opportunities to make a greater impact."

Outfit7 continues to seek out partnerships with companies that combine passion and innovation, with KOBI serving as an exemplary case. We are always looking to support ideas that align with our purpose and have the potential to drive meaningful change.
